The Ecohold Foundation is a registered society of British Columbia, a not-for-profit organisation. 100% of any donation made to Ecohold goes directly to fulfilling our mission and/or to supporting the operational costs of the foundation.

Donations to Ecohold are secured via Stripe, and may be made through the donation form at the bottom of this page. Ecohold is not, at this time, a registered charity, and cannot issue tax-deductible charitable receipts.

At this time, donations to Ecohold are used predominantly to fund projects within our three dedicated research streams, and to help disseminate the results of those projects worldwide to relevant institutions in academia, government, and beyond. In the long term, Ecohold intends to direct resources to aid in conservation efforts, and towards the development of a dedicated centre for research, project testing, and the hosting of academic conferences in support of our mission.

Ecohold is, at this time, predominantly funded via donation, so should you choose to donate, please be assured that every dollar you donate serves a crucial purpose, and is dearly felt.

Where Do Our Resources Go?

Ecohold wants to maximize the effectiveness of every dollar donated, and we expect that our donors do too.  We aim to be entirely transparent with our donors, as to where your money goes and how we aim to develop, both in the short and long term.

Ecohold is, of course, primarily aimed at funding and promoting research that aligns with our mission goals.  Thus the vast majority of our resources are and will always be put towards that purpose.  Still, there are many ways such research can be promoted, both in the short and long term.  There are also costs involved in doing so.  To ensure transparency then, the following is an assessment of Ecohold’s costs, and the purposes to which resources are planned to be disbursed.

Overhead

Every charity and non-profit has operating expenses.  No matter how much we might want to dedicate 100% of our resources to our ideals, funds need to be dedicated too to administration, staffing, fundraising, and maintenance costs.  Common wisdom suggests that societies should spend somewhere between 15-25% of their income on overhead, and even that those which underspend on overhead and fundraising costs demonstrate less effectiveness in achieving their mission goals than those which do [1][2][3].  Nevertheless, Ecohold’s overhead expenses are, at the moment, extremely low.  We aim to spend, in the short term, no more than 10-15% of our income on overhead and related expenses, with upwards of 90% of our funds spent directly towards our mission goals.

Short-term Plans

Over the next one to two years, Ecohold will be focused primarily on securing groundwork commitments and resources.  In brief, our short-term aims are:

  • Securing small and initial revenue
  • Securing publication commitments
  • Soliciting Long-term project proposals
  • Achieving or demonstrating significant progress on initial publications
  • Approaching sympathetic organisations to pursue collaborations and cross-promotion

Mid-term Plans

Over roughly the next five years, Ecohold will be focused on ensuring the transition of initial resources and commitments into long-term prospects, the growth of the society, and the effectiveness of our outreach efforts.  As an example, our medium-term plans include:

  • Securing ongoing and larger revenue sources
  • Investing a degree of capital in non-profit brokerages and similar financial options for ongoing funding.
  • Funding or engaging in at least one Long-term project exceeding the scope of individual publications, i.e., project modelling potential social reform or potential of new methods of sustainable living.
  • Securing cooperation and influence with larger, influential bodies, e.g., universities, political bodies, and other environmental and charitable organisations.
  • Ensuring dissemination of foundation research to influential parties in government or other advocacy groups.
  • Hiring additional staff, full-time fundraisers or social media management, as funds and circumstances allow.
  • Hosting or contributing to the organisation of local or global conference(s) on foundation topics.
  • Having foundation representation at related conferences and activities.

Long-term Plans

Being realistic, long-term plans are, at the moment, purely speculative, and must be prepared to develop and adapt in proportion to the effectiveness of our programs.  That said, at Ecohold we aren’t afraid to dream big.  The Ecohold Foundation ideally hopes to one day be able to provide a dedicated base for research, development, and conservation.  With that in mind, long-term, we aim at:

  • Purchasing land/property for foundation use as (a) Conference centre, (b) hosting researchers for extended projects, and (c) research centre for testing of applied technologies or practical programs related to foundation goals.
  • Purchasing land for conservation in sensitive or environmentally threatened areas.
  • Hiring or recruiting staff or volunteers for management of conservancy areas.

Your Role

Your donations and contributions will be employed directly towards the above goals.  Ecohold aims always to be transparent about resource distribution, as our mission is aimed not at anyone’s personal profit, but at the benefit and protection of the environment and society as a whole.  You are part of that mission, you deserve to be informed about it.

We are also always happy to explore other avenues of contribution.  If you have any ideas for non-monetary contributions, or for ways our resources can effectively be employed in pursuit of our mission, please visit our contact page and reach out.
